how to make an ebook.
okay, so I’m fourteen and I am a writer. I write novels, poems, short stories, you know. The usual. But, now I’m almost finished with one story, yet I don’t know how to make an ebook! I’ve got the cover, the finished book, but now what? How do I expand to the public? Thank you 🙂
If you want to make an ebook for yourself (not for a web ebook store) then you use the free program Calibre. Hopefully your ebook’s text is in one of the many formats Calibre accepts. You’ll import your book text to Calibre and in the settings add a link to your cover image file, fill out some tags (like author, title, etc) and export it as any popular ebook format (like epub for Nook or mobi for Kindle).if you instead want to sell your ebook at Amazon or other major ebook seller, then I think you do NOT make the ebook. You provide your properly formatted book text and cover to Amazon (or other ebook company) and THEY make the ebook. I know at Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) you will get a chance to preview the ebook format, fix your mistakes, resubmit, etc. until you learn to properly provide the ebook text. Then you can accept the result and it gets published. note – you have to 18 and have a bank account.

Good / cheap device to read books on.
I want a device that I can transfer my files/books from my pc to without a hassle. I had Augen “the Book” before it broke on me. I loved how easy it was to create/organize files when it was hooked to my pc.I purchased the Kindle and hate it. I cant organize any files on it from my pc. I can add them to…
You can organize the books on your PC and then transfer everything to the Kindle. All you need is a free program called Calibre. Get it from http://calibre-ebook.com/ and install it on your computer. Once it’s installed, you need to add in the module to allow you to manage your Kindle. Go to Preferences and then Get Plugins to Enhance Calibre. Select Kindle Collections. I find it helpful to add it to the toolbar when it’s installing. Then, once it’s installed, restart Calibre. Attach your Kindle and you should see a new entry on the toolbar for Kindle collections. You can create collections, delete them, move books to them, or let Calibre do all of this for you based upon tags. It’s really powerful once you get the hang of it. After yo finish, you need to be sure to reboot the Kindle for the changes to take effect. Go to the Home screen, press Menu, select Setting, then press Menu again and select Restart. It will take a few minutes, but once it’s back up you should see the changes.
Converting PDF to Kindle device.
I know how to get a PDF onto my Kindle device, but the PDF is always very tough to read. It will have small, nonadjustable font and really weird margins. How do I fix this so it is more readable? Thanks
Calibre is a free ebook manager, lets you manage online books (like books from your amazon account) and convert books quick and easy. That should let you convert your files quite nicely, with the added bonus of being able to write your own ebooks for every reader imaginable.

If you update/change your metadata in your calibre library. How do you get it to change on kindle.
I updated all my meta-data on calibre. It’s much more accurate now. I don’t want to delete all my books on my kindle and reinstall them all again if possible but I want the new meta-data on the kindle. Is there a way to do this?
If you mean on your Kindle reader (which I think you do as opposed to the Kindle Publishing Store) then the following information describes how to manage your ebook metadata. When calibre connects with the reader, it retrieves all collections for the books on the reader. The collections of which books are members are shown on the device view. When you send a book to the reader, calibre will add the book to collections based on the metadata for that book. By default, collections are created from tags and series. You can control what metadata is used by going to Preferences->Advanced->Plugins->Device Interface plugins and customizing the SONY device interface plugin. If you remove all values, calibre will not add the book to any collection.Collection management is largely controlled by the ‘Metadata management’ option found at Preferences->Import/Export->Sending books to devices. If set to ‘Manual’ (the default), managing collections is left to the user; calibre will not delete already existing collections for a book on your reader when you resend the book to the reader, but calibre will add the book to collections if necessary. To ensure that the collections for a book are based only on current calibre metadata, first delete the books from the reader, then resend the books. You can edit collections directly on the device view by double-clicking or right-clicking in the collections column. If ‘Metadata management’ is set to ‘Only on send’, then calibre will manage collections more aggressively. Collections will be built using calibre metadata exclusively. Sending a book to the reader will correct the collections for that book so its collections exactly match the book’s metadata, adding and deleting collections as necessary. Editing collections on the device view is not permitted, because collections not in the metadata will be removed automatically. If ‘Metadata management’ is set to ‘Automatic management’, then calibre will update metadata and collections both when the reader is connected and when books are sent. When calibre detects the reader and generates the list of books on the reader, it will send metadata from the library to the reader for all books on the reader that are in the library (On device is True), adding and removing books from collections as indicated by the metadata and device customization. When a book is sent, calibre corrects the metadata for that book, adding and deleting collections. Manual editing of metadata on the device view is not allowed. Note that this option specifies sending metadata, not books. The book files on the reader are not changed. In summary, choose ‘manual management’ if you want to manage collections yourself. Collections for a book will never be removed by calibre, but can be removed by you by editing on the device view. Choose ‘Only on send’ if you want calibre to manage collections when you send a book, adding books to and removing books from collections as needed. Choose ‘Automatic management’ if you want calibre to keep collections up to date whenever the reader is connected. If you use multiple installations of calibre to manage your reader, then option ‘Automatic management’ may not be what you want. Connecting the reader to one library will reset the metadata to what is in that library. Connecting to the other library will reset the metadata to what is in that other library. Metadata in books found in both libraries will be flopped back and forth.E-Media Studios specialise in formatting books for Kindle Devices – further information on our services can be found on our website.

How do you add books to a Kindle.
I don’t have one yet, just asking. Is it like an MP3 player where you can add whatever e-books you already have to it? From what I’m reading it sounds like you can only read what you buy off Amazon.
You can add mobi format ebooks (also html and txt) by putting them in the Documents folder of the Kindle. And if you have an Amazon account (requires a credit or debit card in the account settings but it can be a parent’s card) then you register the Kindle to that account, and you can buy ebooks at Amazon – they will be delivered wirelessly if the Kindle is connected to Wifi. If you have unprotected ebooks in another format you can convert them with the free program Calibre. You can also put PDF’s in the documents folder but most PDF’s are hard to read on a small screen sing PDf readers cannot change the font size or reflow the lines (you can only zoom and drag PDF’s).NOTE – if what you have is a Kindle Fire color tablet, the ebooks go in the Books folder and PDFs (and maybe txt and html) go in the documents folder. But if your have a monochrome display Kindle ereader, they all go into Documents. There are lots of modern free ebooks at Amazon. Some are only free for a day or two.
